Primary Maths, English and 11+ Tutoring in Stratford-upon-Avon
Welcome to Sharon’s Tutoring. If you need a trustworthy, committed and gently encouraging person to support your child’s learning, look no further! I am a highly experienced and knowledgeable tutor, who can tutor in your own home, public space or online. To further support your child’s preparation, I also offer practice tests for 11+ and SATs.
Maths & English
Supporting children in years 3, 4, 5 and 6, I can help with:
- Arithmetic
- Mathematical Reasoning
- Reading
- Comprehension
- Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG)
I will work with you to agree an approach and tailor support to your child’s specific needs. This could include short, evidence-based programmes for improving fluency in basic skills; as well as help thinking through and solving complex maths problems, and making sense of texts.
11+ Tutoring
I have more than twelve years experience of helping children in years 4 to 6 prepare for the Warwickshire 11+ tests. My lessons are one-to-one or in small groups (depending on demand) and include:
- English Comprehension
- Verbal Reasoning
- Maths
- Non-Verbal Reasoning
I keep my knowledge up to date, making sure you’ll get tuition that’s relevant to the Warwickshire tests. I’ve also proof read 11+ practice resources for a well-known educational publisher.
Practice Tests
Practice tests can help grow confidence for sitting the real tests. Taking place in a venue suitable for informal testing, I can offer practice tests to complement a programme of 11+ or SATs tuition; or as a stand-alone option.
I provide feedback after each test, so you can plan where to focus your efforts as you continue to prepare for the real tests.
Meet Sharon
I’ve enjoyed being a primary tutor since 2010. During this time, I’ve gained a wide variety of experience in school support roles and discovered fulfilment from one-to-one and small-group learning in particular. I have also tutored in a local education centre. Working with a diverse range of needs – including autism, dyslexia, ADHD, deafness, EAL and high ability – has highlighted to me the importance of a child-centred approach. I plan for different learning styles, and I work reflectively and flexibly to best support each individual. In addition, my ability to apply my up-to-date knowledge of the primary maths and English curriculum is reflected in the publication of multiple learning resources that I wrote for a leading educational publisher.
I know that children learn best when they feel safe and valued; therefore I work hard to build positive relationships and ensure that children feel happy and supported in lessons with me. I work with each child, encouraging feedback, listening, and giving space for them to demonstrate and explain their approach. I find it hugely satisfying to witness children’s growing confidence and sense of achievement. Children look forward to my sessions!
I hold an enhanced DBS certificate (clear) and am registered with the update service. I am also on the Information Commissioner’s Office register of fee payers.
With a free trial lesson (30 minutes) for tutoring and flexible monthly booking, you can be confident I am the right choice for you and target support when it is needed most.

Hear it from those who have tried...
We wanted help to support my son, who has dyslexia, with spelling and reading. Sharon worked with feedback from my son’s teachers to plan sessions. She is proactive in her approach, and she is great at suggesting how we can support my son’s learning. Sharon is calm and friendly, and my son engages well with the tutoring. He enjoys Sharon’s sessions. We see him using the tools and techniques that he’s learned, and overall his confidence has grown.
Sharon has been a wonderful tutor for my son, Leon. She is patient, supportive, and explains both English and Maths in a clear and engaging way. Since starting lessons with her, Leon’s confidence has improved noticeably, and he genuinely enjoys learning. I would highly recommend Sharon to any parent looking for a reliable and dedicated tutor.
My child tried different formats for 11+ tuition. We found Sharon to be the best. She is patient, and she explains details clearly, which deepened my child’s understanding. Sharon helped my child build up his skills to confidently approach 11+ problems in test situations.
My child said that Sharon’s creative writing lessons are really helpful. His writing has improved, particularly in his use of vocabulary, sentence structure and generating ideas. His school teacher has also noticed improvement in his writing.
We couldn’t be happier with the support Sharon has provided Chloe over the past year. She has a wonderful way of making complex 11+ topics easy to understand, and Chloe genuinely looks forward to her weekly lessons. Not only has her confidence grown, but her mock exam scores have improved remarkably. Sharon is a fantastic tutor who truly cares about her students’ success.
George is doing amazingly well! He loves high school, and his spelling and writing are excellent now. He is above expected in a lot of his subjects, which I’m so proud of. You definitely helped him hugely, and he often says that. He still remembers the techniques you taught him.
Thank you for all the tutoring with both girls over the years. I know they enjoyed the sessions with you. You have a certain ease about you and a great way of explaining things. Lilah did so well in her 11+, and you really helped to build their confidence in areas they were otherwise unsure about.
My daughter genuinely looks forward to her sessions with Sharon and quickly felt at ease with her teaching style. In a short time, we’ve already seen improvements in her spelling, writing and reading comprehension, which has really boosted her confidence in English. This progress has helped with homework, which has become a far more enjoyable experience.
Sharon, he got into Alcester! We’re delighted. Thank you so much for helping us get there. Your support and calm were invaluable. He always looked forward to your sessions and appreciated how kind and patient you were. We are exceptionally grateful for your input.
My daughter has really enjoyed her sessions with Sharon. She seems to have a way of helping her understand maths, which hasn’t been possible previously. It’s been brilliant preparation for her SATs, and her confidence has improved so much.
Ella got on really well with the sessions and liked Sharon’s calm, patient approach. She found it good to go at her pace, being supported in subject areas she was finding tricky. It was good to see Ella’s progress towards her goals over time.
The test sessions were useful to put Ella into test conditions and get her used to what might come up on the test day; as well as to use feedback to focus on areas for improvement in later lessons.
